In early 1986 this decision became a reality with the formation of Cairns Brothers Rugby Union Club, the sixth such Brothers Club in Queensland. Under the guidance of "old boys" Barry Synott, Gerry Fitzgerald, Lee Martin and Noel Hutton, the Brothers Club entered the local competition.
Cairns Brothers Rugby Union Club is now the most succesful club in the Cairns competition with a total of 7 A Grade titles from 12 grand final appearances in 18 years. The club also boasts 6 Reserve Grade titles and the innaugural Womens Trophy in 2003.
